Version 8.0 Contrib testing

This document lists Contribs that have had been tested running under SME 8

Executive Summary

Contribs should work if they are perl or php based. Some binary application will work as well.

Test guidelines

Considerations_before_installing advises that Contribs for SME 8 have not yet been released, this is to avoid dev workload diagnosing bugs caused by contribs.

Please don't post sme 8 bugs unless you can replicate the bug with the contrib removed or isolated.

Please do contact the contrib maintainer if you have suggestions, they may or may not be able to or wish to help while sme8 is still beta.

Setup

Point yum at the SME 7 Contrib repository, the only thing to change is the final number

db  yum_repositories setprop smecontribs MirrorList http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/mirrorlist/smecontribs-7
signal-event yum-modify

• some contribs don't require a post-upgrade, A new feature of SME 8 is a nag screen in the server manager to reconfigure if you don't do so after a yum install, remove the nag with the following, please don't do this unless you know it's OK, and please don't suggest some else do so unless you are doubly sure.

Workarounds

Contribs that sort of work, but need improvement

smeserver-dansguardian

Dansguardian works with very limited testing in transparent proxy mode, ie it block sites

squid.conf has changed from 2.5 to 2.6, the other auth types may have to be checked

dansguardian would very likely benefit from rebuilding on a .el5 base
