I do not see a a statement about the number of NIC must have the sme. I think it needs two, but it is not marked. however i do not know how it could operate ? sorry for my 2c Stephdl (talk)

I never tried in server only mode, but it should just work. You'll have to manually configure the proxy on your browser, as transparent proxy can only work in server&gateway (unless you configure the interception of port 80 on your gateway device and send it to your SME Server on port 3128). Anyway, the contrib itself doesn't need two NIC. (VIP-ire)
