Official Redhat repositories

[edit]

The default Software Collections repositories

/sbin/e-smith/db yum_repositories set scl-php54 \
repository Name 'Software collections - php54' \
BaseURL 'https://www.softwarecollections.org/repos/rhscl/php54/epel-6-x86_64/' \

The Remi scl repositories provide more detailed PHP rpm's then the Redhat repository does. For example phpxx-mcrypt can be found only in the scl repository of remi. You can mix the Redhat and Remi scl repositories or obviously use just one. You can find also the remi scl in its repository remi.

After adding it to the database updating the configuration file is required by issuing:

signal-event yum-modify

Run a command with a specific software environment

You can run a command from the shell with a specific env with:

scl enable php55 'php -v'

(useful for example if you need to run a cron job with an alternative PHP version)
