I'm pretty sure we can delete this

it's just a more complicated was of saying what we have at Uninterruptable_Power_Supply

Sort of agree. I placed it in this new wiki after "rescuing" it from Greg Swallows archive of the orginal one. However I do feel that the serial part of the Uninterruptable_Power_Supply page could do with making more generic and easyier to follow.

The use of udev's 10-local.rules to create symlinks should not be lost. The only other reference to udev in this wiki, via a search and oustide these two UPS pages, is to a page relating to a mini ITX motherboard. IMHO The use of symlinks for devices makes the server easier to maintain. Just edit the one udev file, rather than having to remember the names of the config files and their syntax for all your applications (my SME box has three serial connected devices).

This udev info should be on another HowTo page linked from the relevant part of Uninterruptable_Power_Supply.
